Trading Lessons Hollywood Accidentally Got Right

Home » 7 Best Trading Movies Every Trader Should Watch
Alright, it’s Christmas Eve…
And let’s be honest, right, you’ve probably got better things to do than wade through a strategy breakdown or mindset hack today…
So instead, here’s something festive:
A few of my favourite trading-related films… just in case you get a shot at the remote control later.
TRADING MOVIES
Ok, starting with my fav!
#1 Trading Places
An absolute Christmas classic. Eddie Murphy, Dan Aykroyd, and a wild frozen orange juice pit.
Are you even a trader if you haven’t seen this?
“Turn those machines back on!”
#2 Wall Street
Gordon Gekko, braces, and peak ’80s alpha energy.
“Greed is good.”
#3 The Big Short
You’ve seen this one… Christian Bale as Michael Burry, shorting the housing market with a drum kit in the background.
Fun, clever, a bit silly at times, but still one of the best.
#4 The Wolf of Wall Street
Meh… not much actual trading, but Leo’s great and Margot Robbie…
Supplied traders with memes for a decade.
#5 Rogue Trader
Underrated gem, I love this movie.
Ewan McGregor as Nick Leeson… the man who singlehandedly brought down Barings Bank.
Pit scenes and dodgy spreadsheets, if you’re fastidious about risk (which I know you are!) This one will make you wince…
#6 Boiler Room
Ben Affleck doing his best Gekko impression.
Vin Diesel in a tie. (I don’t even think he punches anyone or drives a car in this movie…)
It won’t win any awards, but it’s still fun.
#7 Floored
Never hit cinemas, but this one’s good.
A documentary about pit traders trying to make the leap to screens… some make it, most don’t.
Some right obnoxious characters in this!… Watch below:
