Name Your Trading Setups With ChatGPT

Why a memorable setup name is more than fun—it’s a discipline tool.

This week’s shaping up to be a weird one:

  • We’ve got the Iran-Israel conflict playing out as we speak.
  • FOMC on Wednesday.
  • Market holiday on Thursday.
  • Some options expire on Friday.
  • Oh, and don’t forget tariff news dropping in at random!

As I’m writing this, US futures are green, crude gapped higher Sunday night… and then rolled back over.

I haven’t traded much crude lately, but with it in play, I did some digging.

Let’s talk history:

NAME YOUR SETUPS

Here’s the prompt:

I want you to help me come up with a sharp, memorable name for a specific trading setup I use.

The goal: The name should act as a mental shortcut that instantly reminds me of the setup’s core logic.

It should reflect either:
– The pattern itself
– The intention behind the trade
– The constraints (time, signal, target, narrative)
– Or the emotional discipline required to execute it

Start by asking me:

  1. What is the setup?
  2. When do you take it?
  3. What’s the entry trigger?
  4. What’s the typical target?
  5. What makes this trade work — or fail?
  6. Do you want the name to sound tactical, analytical, cheeky, clean, poetic, or prop-style?

Then give me 5–10 name options that reflect those answers — mixing styles if useful — and include a short line explaining why each name fits.

Make sure each name reinforces proper execution.

You might need to tweak and reply a few times to get what you want, but it’s worth doing.

I used this to name one of my opening drive scalp plays.

10AM Guillotine.
💥 Brutal. Precise. Done by 10AM.

That name reminds me exactly what this trade is supposed to be.

And that alone keeps me from overtrading it.

Try it with one of your setups, see what it comes up with!
