What Elite Traders Do Differently When the Market Fights Back
On my recent podcast with Dr. Brett Steenbarger, he said something that really stuck with me.
(I’m paraphrasing slightly here, I don’t fancy listening to myself for ages trying to find the exact quote… pretty sure Dr S won’t mind…)
“The traders I work with at hedge funds — we don’t have conversations about going on tilt. That’s just not happening.”
They’re operating at a different level.
Losing control and firing off revenge trades? Not in their world.
And that reminded me of this quote:
“Pressure is something you feel when you don’t know what you’re doing.”
— Chuck Noll
Want less pressure?
Know what you’re doing.
As legendary golfer Gary Player says…
“The more I practice, the luckier I get.”
— Gary Player
PLAY TO YOUR STRENGTHS

Dr. S also talked about playing to your strengths.
Not just fixing weaknesses, but doubling down on what you’re good at.
Don’t know what that is yet?
Figure it out. Or choose something to master.
“Don’t let what you can’t do interfere with what you can do.”
— John Wooden
Because in this trading game, edge comes from consistency… not perfection.
And if you’re feeling like it’s taking too long?
“Champions keep playing until they get it right.”
— Billie Jean King
Linda Raschke said it best:
“The path to success in trading is to stay in the game long enough to get it.”
Most traders run out of capital… or desire… before that happens.
But if you can hang in there…
“The harder the battle, the sweeter the victory.”
— Les Brown
